Hot dogs are one of my many (many, many) guilty pleasures. Salty, meaty, bready, yummy. NYC is full of these diet-busters, but I feel like if you’re gonna go there then you should just go for the best, right?! Some of the best dogs I’ve had in a loooong time have been at the dirt-cheap & fabulous Crif Dogs.

Chinese noodles at their finest are a little bit dangerous…once you have them, no other noodle will live up to it. Some of the best come from Xi’an Famous Foods – unbelievably delicious and amazingly cheap.
After placing your order at the tiny counter in Chinatown, the noodles are hand-pulled from a thick piece of dough to form the long, wide strips. A few minutes of cooking gives them a light and chewy consistency (so delish!)
My favorite noodle bowl is the lamb – lots a cumin and a hit of spice. Also great are the stewed pork noodles. These are served in a rich, spicy broth with lots of bright flavors like ginger and coriander.

Few things in the world of food are better than Neapolitan pizza. The small, puffy pies with light, chewy crusts and delicate toppings create an experience so much more profound than just your regular slice. I never say no to good pizza, and there’s been plenty to swoon over. But my absolute favorite? Motorino in NYC – without a doubt.

A lively & homey neighborhood gem with locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, this spot pays homage to Italy with a massive wood oven and a selection of the freshest ingredients available. The Stracciatella (left) is just perfect – garlic, olive oil, basil, sea salt and cheese. An amazing combination that elevates pizza to a whole new level. Prosciutto di Parma is also delicuous, layered with fresh oregano and thin slices of the dry-cured meat. The Pugliese (below) is spicy and flavorful with lots of layered flavors and textures that work wonderfully. The Manhattan branch often has two specialty pies to enjoy – one with fried eggs and another with clams. Try these if you have the opportunity.

Motorino also serves a delicious beet salad as an appetizer. I’ve never been a huge fan of root vegetables, but this dish changes things up. It’s earthy, acidic, salty and bright all at the same time. A perfect way to start your meal.

As far as drinks go, stick with the beer. They offer a decent local selection of brews including Pork Slap, Ommegang Witte and and Victory Golden Monkey. The cocktails can be inconsistent and I’m not a big fan of drink wine out of a juice glass. Other than that, no complaints.

My favorite feature about a Motorino pie? It’s good hot, it’s good cold. Don’t be afraid of over-ordering, you’ll enjoy it just the same even after it’s been in the fridge all night. Yum!!
Motorino Pizza – pies range from $9 – $16, appetizers from $5
Love Level – Really, I couldn’t live without this pizza (but I wish they my fave the specials all time!!)

This is the ideal way to spend a summer afternoon. Eat your way through Brooklyn’s finest pies on my favorite food crawl to date. You’ll have a ton of variety to choose from, whether you’re craving sweet, sour, savory or a little bit of each. This is a great itinerary for small groups since all the places offer quite a few temping selections to pick from. Order up a few slices from each place and have a bite of each. Let me know about your favorites!
