Here’s a confession: I am OBSESSED with all things tuna. It’s low-fat, versatile, salty, healthy, and it’s the most gorgeous shade of reddish-purple. I can only fault it for making me so predicable….everyone always knows what I’m going to order if they see raw tuna on the menu.
Anyways, a few years back I went to LA for the first time. It was absolutely fabulous and made me believe in love at first sight. Tons of amazing meals were shared, but one appetizer completely blew me away. Koi’s crispy rice topped with spicy tuna – I die for these.
The most perfect little bite imaginable.. crispy & buttery rice rectangles topped with super fresh spicy tuna and the tiniest sliver of jalapeno. You know something is good when you’re still craving it 8 years after your first bite. I’ve been lucky enough to have it two more times in NYC – it never disappoints. This dish is so worth stopping in for just to try if you have the opportunity (not to mention they also have fantastic cocktails!)
Sidenote: I’ve been dying to recreate at home (I just haven’t because I know it won’t be the same!) – let me know if you try and how it goes, please?!?
