I’m having a love affair with The Meatball Shop Cookbook. After making about five meals in the two short weeks that I’ve owned the book, I can definitely say that this is the best cookbook purchase I’ve made in a loooong time! Meatballs are easy, cheap, loved by all. And just like the Meatball Shop here in NYC the book helps you build a great meal that’s totally unique to you. Keep reading for my pics and full review…
Steak & Bacon Balls - these are AMAZING
I think the reason I love the cookbook most is because it’s reminded me just how easy meatballs are to make. Chop, mix, shape, bake, eat…that’s it! The recipes completely reflect the low-key yet amazingly creative vibe of the restaurant – pick your meatball, sauce and side to create something just to your liking. Everything featured seems to go together flawlessly and shows you how the book is able to reinvent itself over and over again. You’ve got veggie options, pork ones, meatballs with seafood, plus sides and sauces like mushroom gravy, risotto and loads of interesting salads & sauteed veggies. I’m super excited to make my own variations… I’m thinking ones with chipotle, chicken meatballs with sweet & sour sauce, a twist on shrimp shumai, and some made with chorizo.

To be fair the book isn’t 100% flawless. I’d be a little bit happier if there were time estimates on all the recipes, and there were a few (minor) inconsistencies with ingredients and when to add them. But I can look past any first-edition growing pains given the fabulousness of the book itself. Simple recipes that don’t take endless preparation while inspiring you to create new meatball twists of your own – I love.
